I cannot thank the staff enough for their warmth, compassion, understanding and excellent fast service this morning. This morning I arrived without an appointment having been told by told the Acute Assessment Unit on Saturday I would be seen by Derby hospital, when I rung this morning Derby were unable to help. Burton however although explaining I should not have been told this agreed to see me and carried out an ultrasound. I waited 9hrs on Saturday and the messages received were very unclear hence me arriving this morning very confused and desperate for help. The breast care unit were organised, clear, quick and quickly reassured me that the scan did not show a cyst which needed draining or something more sinister and hopefully the blocked duct should clear. This reassurance has meant I am able to contiybreast feeding my son with confidence and has given me peace of mind. The breast care unit moved things around so that I could be reassured and know what action I needed to take. The staff were all reassuring, kind and caring, I didn’t feel like a number I felt like an individual whose care was important. Jacque Woolley, Dr Bagnall and Shelley Sherman were incredibly sensitive and understanding and I cannot explain my gratitude. Thank you

What a wonderful lady! She filled me with confidence as soon as I very first spoke to her, she told me she took pride in her work and now having had a procedure done by her I can say she most certainly does! She has a very professional bedside manner, but at the same time she is so easy to talk to.. I would highly recommend her and would like to thank her and her team for doing such a great job! Thank you.

Mrs Amtul Carmichael is an excellent surgeon who has listened carefully to my concerns and anxieties. She is very perceptive and focused, hence I have felt very well supported and cared for as her patient. Mrs Carmichael has a gift for listening, understanding and reassuring. In my experience I have never felt afraid to ask sometimes detailed and challenging questions. Her response has always been informative, empathetic and reassuring. I feel I have been treated very much as an individual in an environment of mutual respect. I was lucky enough to choose Mrs Carmichael as my surgeon, and did so because of her expertise, skill and her continuity of care. She is clearly an expert surgeon, remaining up to date with latest medical developments; I have minimal neat scars after what was extensive, life-saving surgery; my recovery from surgery has been quick and without complication. I have felt so well supported throughout the last difficult 6 weeks. This has been exactly the high quality of care that I was hoping for. Thank you

I am in awe of this lady. I just want to say from the moment of finding out I had a Grade 3 Triple Negative Cancer and meeting Mrs Carmichael I totally trusted her judgement. She gave me exceptionally good advice, listened to my concerns and gave me choices and a hug aswell. You are not only a ‘Patient’ you are still a wife and a Mother and Mrs Carmichael reassured me that all was going to be well. I actually bumped into Mrs Carmichael outside of the hospital, we were both buying fruit and she actually recognised me (even with my hair piece on as I had lost this from several rounds of chemotherapy), she thanked the fruit and vegetable man for a beautiful selection and for staying open late in the evening whilst we chatted. I cannot thank Mrs Carmichael enough, I have said to my husband she is a ‘serine being’. Thank you so much to Mrs Carmichael and all of the wonderful nurses for my care at the Breast Clinic and in the Oncology Suite.
